Amy Rex is the superintendent of Milton Town School District in northwest Vermont. Prior to that role, she was the principal of Monument Mountain Regional High School in Great Barrington, Massachusetts for one year. Previously, Amy served as co-principal at Harwood Union High School in Vermont, where she was recognized as one of Vermont’s 2017 Principals of the Year. At Harwood, students take an active role in designing their own education, and are leading efforts to change school systems and make sure that all student voices are heard and acted upon. As the school’s co-principal, Amy served as a champion of student voice and student-centered learning, leading efforts to develop personalized learning opportunities for every student. Committed to shared leadership inclusive of teachers and students, Amy is passionate about a learning organization that reflects equity and excellence for all students, the collective capacity of the professional staff, and engaged community partners.
Amy’s work at Harwood also included collaborating with students within the school’s shared leadership team to create a “passage presentation” for ninth graders that provides a structure for using personalized learning plans and digital portfolios as vehicles for meeting Vermont’s statewide proficiency-based graduation requirements.
